These sandbar pups, born in late May, were recently transferred over to our Animal Care and Rescue Center, where they’ll stay until they are ready to be transported to peer institutions for long-term care. Shark keeper Kira recently invited us to watch a feeding of the aquarium’s juvenile sandbar sharks! The three sharks, Stevie Nicks, Beth Hart, and Sass Jordan, are fed three times per week. Like most elasmobranchs, they have slow metabolisms, so it takes about 2-3 days for them to digest each meal. And unlike the adult sandbar sharks, which are fed from a long feeding pole, these small sharks are fed from tongs, allowing the keepers to monitor exactly how much each animal eats in order to track
