In August of 1970, Joni traveled to the American Southwest to visit James Taylor on the set of Two-Lane Blacktop. While filming on location, he wrote “You Can Close Your Eyes” for her. Joni and James performed the song together in London at the Paris Theatre a few months later, which was recorded (and later broadcast) for “In Concert,” a weekly show on BBC Radio.
