We often get asked why we throw the bonobos' food in the water from a distance. Although they are at the sanctuary, they are in a semi-wild environment and it's important that we give them their space and limit human contact wherever possible. Tossing it into the water rather than on land helps keep the food, much of which is fruit, clean and intact.
