Today we honor and remember SSG Gary Harper Jr. April 23, 1976 – October 6, 2012 SSG Gary Harper Jr. died Jr. died 9 October 2005, of wounds sustained when his unit was ambushed near Baghdad, Iraq, during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. SSG Harper graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2004 and was assigned as a Medical Sergeant to 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served until his death.
