Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano has provided an update on the injury to talisman Lionel Messi after his early substitution against Necaxa in the Leagues Cup.

Reports in Mexico and the U.S. suggest that Inter Miami is close to signing the 30-year-old defender for a fee in the $6-7 million range. Piovi joined Cruz Azul from Racing in 2024 for $2.5 million and has made 74 appearances for La Máquina.

Mascherano most recently was Argentina's under-20 team and Olympic coach; the national team let him out of the last two years of his contract to come to Inter Miami — where he has a three-year deal.
