TRENTON — With hours left in his final term, Gov. Phil Murphy has freed more than 30 killers from prison and granted clemency to several more. On Tuesday, the outgoing governor issued 97 pardons and commuted 51 sentences. Since Murphy created the Clemency Action Board in June 2024, he has granted clemency to 455 people in seven rounds of clemency.
