A major incident has been declared after severe flooding hit parts of southwest euovernight, leaving dozens of people trapped in homes and vehicles. Joint Fire Control (JFC) received more than 450 calls within a 12-hour period, mainly in Carmarthenshire, according to Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS).

The disaster occurred when an unusual weather pattern known locally as “gota fría” or “cold drop” hit the eastern coast of Spain. It occurs when a cold air mass interacts with warmer, moisture-laden Mediterranean air, triggering heavy rainfall over a concentrated area.
