MORRISTOWN, New Jersey (Reuters) -The United States is close to finalizing several trade pacts in coming days and will notify other countries of higher tariff rates by July 9, President Donald Trump said on Sunday, with the higher rates set to take effect on August 1.

As the Wednesday deadline looms, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent echoes the president’s talk of an Aug. 1 date, saying tariffs would revert then to levels announced in April.

The Trump administration is stepping up pressure on trading partners to quickly make new deals before a Wednesday deadline, when the president’s 90-day so-called “reciprocal” tariff deadline is set to expire.
