Donald Trump has said a proposal to end Russia's war in Ukraine has been "fine-tuned" and announced he's sending his special envoy Steve Witkoff to meet with Vladimir Putin.

Ukraine, US and European officials met in Geneva to discuss the draft plan presented by Washington to end the nearly 4-year old conflict.

Ukraine has reportedly agreed to a potential peace deal with Russia in what could be a massive step towards bringing the devastating four-year war to an end.

Witkoff was heard telling Ushakov that he had told Trump that Russia had always wanted a peace deal, and suggested Putin could speak with the president ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s upcoming visit to the White House, telling him it would be useful and help move the peace deal currently under development forward.

The meeting last week was just the latest example of a long-running rift inside the Trump administration over how to end the war in Ukraine.
