New Delhi, Oct. 16 -- Actor Imran Khan has been directed to leave India by October 28 after allegedly violating the Foreigners Act by participating in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) issued the notice days after Khan was detained during a demonstration at August Kranti Maidan on October 10. The action reportedly followed a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, who alleged that Khan is a US citizen and had breached Indian law by joining the protest. The controversy has raised questions about the rights of foreign nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cardholders to participate in political demonstrations. While OCI status allows eligible foreign citizens to live and travel in India under applicable rules, it does not grant Indian citizenship or the political rights reserved for citizens.
