Navigator CO2 Ventures and POET have signed a deal to transport the carbon dioxide from 18 ethanol plants in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota through a proposed pipeline to Illinois.

POET, a major U.S. biofuels maker previously slated to join the now-defunct Navigator pipeline, is officially partnering with Summit Carbon Solutions.

South Dakota-based Poet, the world's largest ethanol producer, said Tuesday it's joining Navigator CO2 Ventures' $3 billion carbon capture pipeline.

POET, based in Sioux Falls, will use Navigator’s Heartland Greenway system for captured CO2. The 1,300-mile pipeline travels through several states including South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.
