Google may be starting to enforce mandatory app bundles on the Play Store, and killing off easily installable APKs in the process.

Android 15’s new app archiving feature works with apps distributed as both APKs and Android App Bundles, unlike the Google Play Store.

Google TV and Android TV will be requiring Android App Bundles that are archivable starting in May 2023 to save storage for users.

Android TV will require App Bundles in 2023, should reduce app size by 20% Bundles save space, with the tradeoff that developers give Google the app-signing keys.
