With their 22-19 loss Sunday to the Broncos in Denver, the Chiefs’ record dropped to 5-5, and they are 3 1/2 games behind 9-2 Denver in the AFC West with seven games to play. The Chiefs looked lethargic for much of the afternoon in the Mile High City, plagued by penalties, terrible special teams and stretches of poor offensive plays.

Sunday’s 22-19 loss to the Broncos on Wil Lutz’s 35-yard field goal as time expired makes a record-tying 10th straight division crown a long shot. The Chiefs are currently out of playoff position; they haven’t missed the postseason since 2014.
Until further notice, the division-title chase is done and dusted, at least for the Kansas City Chiefs, who face a shocking uphill battle just to get back in the playoff race this season.
The Chiefs are 0-5 in one-score games this season. Every loss has come by seven points or fewer, and each one has featured a familiar mix of missed chances, penalties and late-game breakdowns. Cornerback Trent McDuffie said the issue is execution in the final quarter.
