Aliquippa punches ticket to WPIAL high school football championship in win over New Castle
Thanks to a strong effort on defense, Aliquippa is headed back to the WPIAL 4A football championship with a semifinal victory over New Castle.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) – A huge defensive stand by New Castle on a two-point conversion attempt by Montour with 20 seconds remaining pushed the Red Hurricanes into the next round, 14-13, where they’ll meet Aliquippa with a chance to play for the WPIAL Class 4A title in two weeks.
The ‘Canes (9-3) and Quips battled to a 0-0 tie at halftime, before Aliquippa scored touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, while holding New Castle scoreless.
The High football team did it. Montour quarterback Brandon Bennett slipped and fell harmlessly to the Taggart Stadium turf with 20 seconds left and the hosts held on for a 14-13 WPIAL Class 4A playoff win Friday night.
