HP Pavilions ship with a serial number used to identify each unit. Unlike the product name and number, which apply to a specific group of units, the serial number is unique to each computer.

If your computer still displays the sticker near the back of the tower, the serial number also can be found there. Look for the year of manufacture amongst the various letters and numbers.
