The Israeli military apologized for a strike that killed three Lebanese soldiers in southern Lebanon, saying it is not battling the country’s military and its soldiers believed they were targeting a vehicle belonging to the Hezbollah militant group.

Six women and children from the same family were killed and eight others were injured in an Israeli drone attack on the Nabi Anam neighborhood in Baalbek, eastern Lebanon, according to Lebanese media reports.

The UN’s special coordinator for Lebanon has criticised Israel after air strikes on municipal buildings in the southern city of Nabatieh killed the mayor and 15 other people. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert called the killing of mayor Ahmad Kahil “alarming” and said any violations of international humanitarian law were “completely unacceptable”.
