After a display of the rare Northern Lights and an appearance of a comet that may leave the solar system forever, the year’s largest supermoon completed October’s celestial trifecta.

Known as a "Hunter's Moon," it was even bigger and brighter than others that have appeared recently, as it was closer to completing its full lunar phase. It also joined the comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas in the sky, discovered last year, appearing in the Northern Hemisphere for the first time after soaring through the Southern Hemisphere for months.

Thursday's clear night sky was illuminated by the brightest supermoon of the year. October's full moon is known as the Hunter's Moon. Photographers from Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire and Berkshire were on hand to capture the lunar event.
