Israel continues to hammer northern Gaza despite U.S. hopes that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar could be a turning point in the year-old conflict.

Israel's military spokesman says "anyone who will be near the sites used to finance Hezbollah's terrorist activity is required to stay away from them immediately", promising strikes in Beirut and elsewhere in Lebanon.

Fighting raged on two fronts Sunday as Israel targeted what it said was a Hezbollah “command centre” in the Lebanese capital, while in Gaza rescuers reported 73 people killed in a single air strike. The strikes on Hezbollah’s south Beirut stronghold came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Iran-backed group of attempting to assassinate him by targeting his residence.
