Apple has big plans for AI. Apple Intelligence, which is rolling out to Apple devices later this month, promises to do a lot: summarize your texts, read your emails, generate emojis, and clean up your rat's nest of Instagram and TikTok notifications.

Regardless of which element you're using — the call recording in the Phone app, the transcripts that appear in the Notes app or the Apple Intelligence-exclusive summarize tool — this is one of the best-implemented features in the iOS 18.1 update.

First set of Apple Intelligence features are expected to arrive on Apple devices globally this month. The company is expected to roll out the iOS 18.1 for iPhones, iPadOS 18.1 for iPads, and macOS Sequoia 15.

Developers or people enrolled in Apple's public beta program can install prerelease versions of iOS 18.1 right now and sign up to test Apple Intelligence. (The technology will also run on iPadOS 18.1 and MacOS Sequoia 15.1, but I'm using iOS 18.1 as shorthand to mean all three. As always, be smart about what you're getting into .)
